She Wakes
Our “awakening” into the world we inhabit isn’t usually a once and done experience - though that certainly can happen. We can even experience several of these larger, life-altering events - each bringing another layer of awakening to ourselves.
I believe however, most people come to places in life where they experience glimmers of awakening. Yet, whether glimmers or major events that cause us to “wake up”, when we do so, we may find we are far from Home. And, sometimes, we come to understand and recognize that a stranger has appeared - taking up residency in our bodies - moving through the world as a stand-in for who we truly are and who we came into this world to be.
We are, indeed, amazing creators of images of ourselves. Yet, I believe we also have an inborn sense of who we are - an “inner compass”, perhaps hidden and shielded from the world to protect our woundedness from growing ever more. The incredible thing is that our dreams often provide us with glimpses into our Truth, or glimmers of our Truth. Both provide us with a memory of who we are. Upon awakening, we are met with a fleeting moment of choice. We will either choose to step forward into this remembering or choose to forget - continuing to sleep and dream again.
It is through a practice of loving compassion that we find the courage to “stay awake” and to step forward into ourselves and live our courageous life.
I wrote this poem upon awakening one morning after a stirring dream, as a reminder to continue to practice Loving Compassion within myself, and to continue to light the fire of courage so that I may stay awake in these difficult times.
She Wakes
She sleeps
She dreams
She wakes
She waits.
She waits.
***
She sleeps
She dreams
She wakes
Filled with hope
She shifts
She moves
***
She sleeps
She dreams
She wakes
Filled with hope
Made visible
She breathes
She stands
She shows herself
***
She sleeps
She dreams
She wakes
Filled with hope
Made visible
Made known
She speaks
She’s ready
She shows up
***
She sleeps
She dreams
She wakes
Made visible
Made known
Filled with hope
Foot forward
She remembers
She commits
She owns her place in the world
***
She sleeps
She dreams
She wakes
Made visible
Made known
Filled with hope
Foot forward
with Courageous Compassion
She Lives
She Loves
She Shines
