LIFTING THE VEIL WITH REIKI

Often in the practice of Reiki, the work of the practice releases you from a thought, a belief, a feeling, a way of being – that has been acting as a “veil” over the Truth of who you are and who you know, deep within, you are called to be. This veil may be solid, opaque, or sheer. Its outward appearance may even appear beautiful.

Yet, it’s still a veil.

I’ve lived beneath some pretty heavy veils – some I had chosen for myself and others lain over me that I failed to have the courage or strength to lift off on my own. And, maybe you never truly uncover all of the veils that layer over you. Maybe it is only in our final transition from this world that our final veil is ever lifted. I do know that as you release your veils, layer by layer, you become lighter – more translucent. In this lifting, our lives take on a greater brightness and lightness. We feel a coming Home.

One of the benefits of the aging process is that you get tired of the veils. As you continue to live beneath your veils, they become Heavier. And. Heavier.  – perhaps suffocating. They take great effort to keep up, and their presence, over time, can take great tolls.

In my own experience there have been places and points, where a tiredness came seeping into my muscles and bones from the constant upkeep and weight of the veils. With time, an illness came knocking on my door. I began to feel my body and spirit atrophy in a kind of slow suffocation. I had taken tiny peeks beneath my veils – even lifted some and allowed the pain to rise up, out, and be free. But there were still some I recognized. To say they made me uncomfortable is a stretch. I knew I needed support to unveil them and be free.

At some point, YOU JUST WANT TO BE FREE.

“Lifting our veils” reminds me of bundling up my children when they were young and sending them outside to play on a sunny, Spring day when the snow first begins to melt. The temperature is hovering around a still cool, 40ish degrees and the blue sky day is so inviting!

So, you struggle – despite their resistance - to put on their extra layers – that snow or mud pants – that jacket and hat – those boots – maybe even some mittens. And, before you can get the baby bundled – the door has flown open and, they’re off!  Cause Darn it! It’s time to play and it’s sunny and it’s Spring!

As you finish bundling the baby, your eye is off the escapees for what seems like seconds. And you head out the door with baby. Then, you see WHAT?!  Whoa, you see a hat just a few feet outside the door and another one atop some lingering snow - jackets in the bush – the boots kicked clear across the yard (to opposite sides!) and, you may even catch them struggling to release themselves from the confining feeling of that shirt and pants (I’ve found my kids busy in the sand/snow/mud box down to their skivvies). They just want to be released – feel that freedom – experience the world unencumbered. You feel their Brilliant energy. It fills you! They are reveling in their element – feeling One with the world.

They have had their literal unveiling.

And, isn't this what we all want?

I found Reiki in my search for help with my own “unveiling”.

I knew there was a Truth hidden somewhere deep inside – a Truth of who I Am, Was, and Could be Again. There was a faint remembering – a whisper in the night of who I’d covered up long ago. And, I knew to uncover this Truth and These Truths would be a healing for me as no medicine could be.

And so began a consistent holistic practice of awareness and care. One of the most important pieces to this practice was the loving, compassionate practice of Reiki. As a daily practice of encounter with Divine Life Force Energy – I was brought, time and again, into deep places – peeling off the layers of veils with a Loving Compassion that felt nourishing and true.

Through continued practice, I began to know again that feeling of being One with myself and One with the world. Veils have lifted. I recognize myself again.

This is one of the reasons I practice Reiki with myself and with others. This is why I teach Reiki. This beautiful healing modality lifts the veils that cover up our Divine Life Force – and reunite us with the Truth of who we are and who we are meant to be.

We are loved. We are worthy. We are both human and Divine. We can be healed.
